Fleeing suspect strikes 2 police cruisers during chase: Westlake Police Blotter

WESTLAKE, Ohio –

Police chase: Crocker Park

Westlake police officers at 9 p.m. on Jan.

5 spotted a car parked on Main Street in Crocker Park owned by a man wanted on multiple felony warrants for charges including probation violation, fleeing from police, and theft, according to a Westlake Police Department press release.

Officers initially noticed the vehicle because it had expired license plates.

At around 10 p.m., the officers attempted to stop the man as he returned to his car. Instead of complying with the officers’ demands, he fled to his car, initiating a police chase. While fleeing the area, the suspect struck two police cruisers before entering I-90 eastbound.

Near the Detroit Road exit in Rocky River, the suspect struck another vehicle.

He fled on foot but was soon apprehended without further incident. Officers recovered a firearm from inside the suspect’s abandoned vehicle. A 20-year-old Cleveland man was arrested on a charge of felony fleeing.

A Cuyahoga County grand jury is expected to decide whether to issue an indictment on additional charges.

The Rocky River Police Department is investigating the crash that occurred in their city. The North Olmsted, Lakewood, Bay Village and North Olmsted police departments assisted Westlake and Rocky River in successfully apprehending the suspect.

Car crash: I-90

Officers at 3 p.m. on Jan.

4 responded to a one-car crash on I-90 westbound at the Dover Center Road exit.

A Ford four-door vehicle smashed into the median wall. The driver, a 35-year-old Cleveland woman, said another driver cut her off, which forced her to lose control and crash into the wall.

The other vehicle had left the scene, and there were no witnesses. The adult, along with her two juvenile daughters, were taken to Fairview Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

At the hospital, officers discovered that the driver had a firearm along with a cut straw with powder residue and a small number of pills in her possession, according to a Westlake Police Department press statement. The woman was charged with misdemeanor possession of drugs and failure to control her vehicle, according to the police.

She was released from the hospital.

Hit-skip: Sperry’s Forge Trail

A caller at 6:30 p.m. on Jan.

4 reported a hit-skip motor vehicle crash on Sperry’s Forge Trail.

An unoccupied pickup truck that was parked on the street was struck by another pickup. The driver of the at-fault vehicle fled the scene. Evidence showed it drove over several tree lawns and struck a mailbox on the street as well.

Officers found the suspect vehicle parked in a driveway on Settlers Reserve Way.

A man, who admitted to driving the company vehicle, was located and interviewed. Officers noted the 46-year-old Olmsted Falls man seemed impaired. He was field-tested and arrested for OVI.

He also was charged with failure to control.

Arrested on warrants: Winchester Drive

Officers at 10 pm. on Jan.

2 responded to a home on Winchester Drive after a caller said her sister’s ex-boyfriend was pounding on the door.

Officers learned that the 27-year-old Elyria man was wanted on a felony warrant from the Elyria Police Department for menacing by stalking.

Officers arrested the suspect, told him he would be arrested for trespassing if he returned to the Westlake home, and then turned him over to the Elyria Police Department.
