Fundraiser honouring Tetney Lock tragedy victims Cameron and David Walsh nears £48K
A fundraiser in memory of Cameron and David Walsh has surpassed GBP48,000 in just four days. The 16-year-old Grimsby Town youth star and his doting dad David tragically died[1], after their car entered Tetney Lock on Saturday, January 6. Since then, there has been an outpouring of grief in the community, with hundreds posting heartfelt messages and tributes[2] online.
Grimsby Town Football Club was among those posting statements and spoke of their “profound sadness and heavy hearts” at the loss. Cameron was described as a much-loved figure among teammates and an integral part of the GTFC academy. Friends of David described him as a ‘lovely and humble guy’ who shared his son’s love for football.
Since the devastating news, a friend of the Walsh family has set up a Go Fund Me page to help David and Cameron’s family navigate this difficult time. It has garnered 1,600 donations and by Saturday morning had raised a total of over GBP48,799. Football clubs such as Cleethorpes Town FC, Waltham FC and the Mariners Trust have donated generous sums.
Local businesses, residents and others from across the UK have also donated large amounts. Contributors shared heartful messages in their dozens. One woman wrote: “Taken far too soon, two lovely people who I had the pleasure of knowing.”
Another said: “May you both shine bright up there, our thoughts are with your family.” A man added: “RIP boys, Can’t get my head round this. Love to all the family at this very difficult time.”

A spokesperson for the force said: “We are now appealing for anyone who may have information to come forward. We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the vehicle driving prior to the incident and captured it on dashcam or has footage of the collision itself. “Please check footage from the Laceby crossroads at Laceby, Grimsby, and the surrounding roads leading to the Tetney Lock Road area between 12:30pm and 1.33pm yesterday.
At this stage it is not believed there were any other vehicles involved but we are keeping an open mind as the investigation progresses.”
