Glasgow south side car crash leaves residents ‘devastated’ after vehicle ends up in garden

A Pollokshields[1] resident has spoken of her shock after a major crash in the south side[2] neighbourhood. As reported by Glasgow Live[3], the crash happened at the corner Shields Road and Albert Drive at around 5.15pm yesterday (January 2). Emergency services[4] rushed to the scene shortly after and the road was cordoned off by police officers. Images from the scene show a severely damaged car, which appears to have crashed through a fence and into a flat block.

The extent of injuries is not currently known at this time.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service[7] (SFRS) were also in attendance at the scene but confirmed that no one was in the vehicles involved by the time of their arrival. One local resident said that people in the area are aware of speeding, adding the incident was “devastating” for affected residents.

Speaking to Glasgow Live, she said: “It’s so devastating to have an incident like this happen in your home where you should feel the most safe and secure.

“But we’re also aware as local residents that a lot of speeding does happen in the area and even though there’s been attempts to tackle it, it doesn’t seem to be making a difference and there is a lot of dangerous driving. “But ultimately, we’re thinking of the people who have had their home damaged and we hope that they’re all well and okay.” Join Glasgow Live’s Whatsapp Community here[8] and get the latest news sent straight to your messages.

An SFRS spokesperson said: “We were in attendance at the scene this evening. “We received the call at 5.18pm for the incident on Shields Road. We left the scene at 6.10pm.

“Two appliances were sent to the scene.

No one was in the vehicles when we arrived.”

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
