Greenfield Police report no survivors in twin-engine plane crash

FOR THE GAZETTE/LIESEL NYGARD GREENFIELD - There are no survivors following a twin-engine plane crash near Oak Hill Acres on Sunday morning, according to the Greenfield Police Department. According to Deputy Police Chief William Gordon, the crash, involving a four-seater plane, was reported at 11:26 a.m.
"We received several calls that a small-engine plane had crashed into the woods in north Greenfield," Gordon said. "With help from the Turners Falls [Municipal] Airport and the Greenfield emergency management drone team, we were able to locate a twin-engine aircraft that had gone down in the woods." Gordon declined to confirm a specific number of victims. Rescue crews and investigators with the Massachusetts State Police, Greenfield Police Department, Greenfield Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal's Office all responded.
Gordon advised on Sunday afternoon that representatives from the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are also expected to arrive.
Crews are being transported to and from the rural area where the plane crashed using ATVs.
The Greenfield Police Department asks that residents not try to view the scene as they will be turned away.
