Head-on crash in Kent County leaves 1 dead, 1 seriously injured

KENT COUNTY, MI - One woman died, and a man was seriously injured following a head-on collision Thursday morning, Kent County sheriff's deputies said.

Investigators have identified the woman killed in the crash as a 19-year-old DeWitt woman.

The crash was reported around 6 a.m.

Thursday, Jan.

4, at the intersection of Whitneyville Avenue SE and Prairie View Lane SE in Caledonia Township.

Sheriff's deputies said a 19-year-old DeWitt woman was driving a Cadillac SUV northbound on Whitneyville Avenue SE when the Cadillac side-swiped a southbound Ford Escape.

The Cadillac continued northbound and collided head-on with a southbound Accura Sedan.

After the crash, the driver of the Sedan - a 21-year-old Middleville man - was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Ford Escape - who was not immediately identified by age or gender - was not injured.

Police have closed the area and are advising drivers to seek an alternative[1] route.

The crash remains under investigation.
