Hero Devon lad lights up Downing Street for incredible cause

A little North Devon legend has been praised by the Prime Minister for his fundraising for the Tony Hudgell Foundation. Nine-year old Jack Hopkins from Northam[1] has been helping good causes for half of his life, and has just spent Christmas[2] delivering 150 presents to children who would not have received a gift. The points of light award recognises outstanding individual volunteers – people who are making a change in their community.

Downing Street was made into a mini-Christmas market where 12 small businesses came to showcase their produce to the Prime Minister.

Jack Hopkins Points of Light Award

Jack said: “It was an honour to have been invited and to be able to stand outside No10 – it felt very festive at the end of it.

Rishi came out and made a speech thanking the stalls and guests who attended before turning on the Christmas tree lights. “It was really fun and I liked all the lights and the stalls, especially the free samples.” His mother Katie added: “I say it all the time, but Jack couldn’t make me any prouder – and then he goes and does just that!

He is one incredible boy who enjoys helping others. I can’t wait to see where life takes him in the future. Saying we’ve been to Downing Street still doesn’t seem real.

From something that started nearly five years ago I never thought we would be where we are today.”
