Hove Blachington Mill School hit by fire

A blaze has broken out at a secondary school in Hove. The fire, at Blatchington Mill School on Neville Avenue, was reported at about 17:40 GMT on Wednesday. East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) crews remain at the scene and are continuing to fight the blaze which is affecting the ground floor of a building.

All persons have been accounted for and there are no reports of injuries, ESFRS confirmed. “There is a lot of smoke in the air so please keep doors and windows closed, and continue to avoid the area,” the service added in a post[1] to X, formerly Twitter. On its website, the school confirmed it will not be open on Thursday morning and advised parents and pupils to “keep checking our website for more updates while we assess the situation”.

Officers from Sussex Police are also in attendance, and ESFRS said a fire investigation will take place in due course.
