January transfer window truth Daniel Farke knows Leeds United may struggle against

Daniel Farke knows his squad would benefit from a few more experienced heads, but the Leeds United boss is realstic when it comes to the January tranfer window. Leeds saw Luke Ayling[1] depart on loan to Middlesbrough this week, making a young squad even younger. Farke admits he would like a few more experienced campaigners in his dressing room, but is not afraid to utilise the energy in his squad for the Championship promotion push.

And the German is fully aware how difficult it is to sign players in the January transfer window – especially those who have been there and done and would bring a wealth of knowledge to the club. Farke[2] admitted that was on the agenda when it came to transfer discussions[3] behind the scenes, but knows it’s a challenge to identify the right player.

“A bit more experienced would do no harm, that’s for sure,” Farke said ahead of this weekend’s Championship game against Cardiff City. “But again in the January transfer window it’s always always a bit difficult. “We lost many experienced players in the summer.

It’s not that easy to replace Luke (Ayling’s) experience so obviously we will have a look and have this in our mind when we are speaking about possible incomings this month. “During January there’s no guarantee if we can find the right player, and if we do, if we can afford him. We can’t be too addicted to this as perhaps we can’t find the perfect solution.

So we have to fight with our tools. “If we then have to play with a bit more youth and sometimes even a bit more naivety then yeah, we have to repair them with with more energy and intensity and this what we’re trying to do.”
