Kemps Creek: One driver dead and another critically injured following head-on crash between two vehicles in western Sydney

A deadly head-on vehicle collision in western Sydney has killed a driver and left another man seriously injured after he became trapped. The crash unfolded between a hatchback and a ute before the morning peak hour rush on Friday in the suburb of Kemps Creek, about 40km west of the CBD. Police said emergency services were dispatched to the scene on Mamre Road shortly after 6am, although they could not confirm details about the circumstances leading up to the accident.

One of the drivers died immediately following the smash. Meanwhile the other got caught up inside the wreckage and could only be rescued about an hour later. “One driver died at the scene while a second was trapped for almost an hour before being released.

He is being taken by road ambulance to Liverpool Hospital,” NSW Police said in a statement. Both individuals were the only occupants of their vehicles. Motorists have been advised of heavy traffic build ups in the area through Friday morning as Crash Investigators remain at the location to carry inquiries.

Mamre Road has been closed in both directions with diversions in place via Luddenham Road and Wallgrove Road. Heavy vehicles can use The Northern Road. No further details about the deceased driver are known so far.

Their death marks the eighth life lost on NSW roads this year alone and has brought the 12-month toll to 354.

In 2023, more than 9,660 people incurred serious injuries and required hospitalisations due to road-related incidents.
