Lisbon man accused of attempted break-in, car theft, and hit-and-run in Auburn
AUBURN (WGME) -- A Lisbon man is accused of trying to break into a home in Auburn before stealing a car, hitting a pedestrian, and fleeing the scene. According to the Sun Journal, 53-year-old Jerry Veilleux was charged with unauthorized use of property, aggravated reckless conduct, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, aggravated driving to endanger, and burglary last week. Police say Veilleux unsuccessfully attempted to break into a home on Poland Spring Road in Auburn while the resident was still inside.
The suspect then went to Turkey Road where he allegedly stole a car whose owner had left it running to warm up, according to the Sun Journal. The owner of the car told police he saw Veilleux hit a neighbor who was trying to prevent him from leaving the scene. The neighbor was taken to Central Maine Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Sun Journal.
Veilleux was eventually arrested at a Cumberland Farms in Lewiston and was taken to the Androscoggin County Jail.
