Live: M5 slip road near Bristol closed by coach fire as smoke blows across road

An exit slip road was closed on the M5 following a coach fire this evening (January 5). There was smoke was blowing across the motorway near Bristol[1]. According to traffic monitoring site Inrix, the blaze broke out heading northbound at junction 16 for Aztec West.

The road closure was put in place at around 6.10pm and the motorway fully reopened by 7.50pm. Inrix says: “M5 Northbound exit slip road re-opened, long delays cleared, earlier a coach fire at J16 A38 Gloucester Road (Aztec West). Previous congestion to J17 (Cribbs Causeway).

“Exit slip closed around 18:10 for a coach fire which is still being put out, traffic was held again at 18:45 until 18:55, lane one (of three) is now closed on the main carriageway.”

The M5 reopened just before 8pm.
