Locations of mobile speed cameras in North Wales for January 2024 and update on 20mph enforcement
The latest list of the locations of the GoSafe mobile speed cameras have been released for January 2024 and there is an update on 20mph enforcement. The Wales Road Casualty Reduction Partnership runs mobile speed camera operations across Wales. It has marked vans and motorcycles in villages, towns and cities as well as on rural roads.
They are used to detect speeding offences and other road traffic violations. They are staffed by fully-trained police staff or police officers who monitor the speed of vehicles passing the vans. Each month they release a list of the sites where enforcement will be carried out – with cameras rotating around the various locations.
GoSafe has also issued an update on 20mph enforcement amid speculation this was due to be stepped up.
Teresa Ciano, Partnership Manager, GoSafe, said: “To summarise the current position on enforcement of 20mph by GoSafe. “In 30mph areas that changed to 20mph on 17 th September 2023, GoSafe have the continued support of Chief Officers to allow the public time to get used to the change in limits.
GoSafe, in conjunction with the four police forces in Wales, will issue a statement ahead of wider enforcement taking place. “GoSafe and Welsh police will continue to use an engagement focused approach to 20mph. Our priority is to inform the public.
Roadside engagement sessions have continued to be run by GoSafe, Welsh Fire and Rescue Services, and other partners, to help drivers adjust to the change. These sessions will continue throughout 2024 and from 8 th January, dedicated teams will be working under GoSafe to deliver them under the name ‘Operation Ugain’. “Our aim is to ensure compliance with the speed limits for the benefit of road safety, not to catch people out.
Enforcement is carried out where there is evidence of risk and harm to people. each location is assessed prior to enforcement taking place.”
