Loughborough: Dashcam footage shows van speeding through town

Dashcam footage of a disqualified driver speeding through a Leicestershire town has been released.

Leicestershire Police said Niall Thompson, 25, drove on the wrong side of the road, through red lights and hit speeds of more than 90mph (144km/h) in the Loughborough area during a pursuit lasting more than 10 minutes.

The van also entered the town centre, where it overtook other vehicles and reached speeds of 60mph (96km/h), police added.

After coming to a stop, Thompson attempted to escape by running inside a business premises but was stopped by officers and arrested.

The force said Thompson had already been disqualified from driving at the time of the pursuit on 14 December.

On Friday at Leicester Crown Court, Thompson, of Kingfisher Way, Loughborough, was sentenced to 36 weeks in prison, suspended for two years, after pleading guilty to dangerous driving, two counts of driving while disqualified and two counts of driving without insurance.
