M1 carriageway closed in Leicestershire for police incident
Traffic is building on the M1, which is closed southbound at Leicester The M1 is closed southbound in Leicestershire due to a police incident. The motorway was first closed between junction 22 at Markfield and junction 21A at Leicester shortly before 05:30 GMT on Thursday.
Officers also temporarily held traffic on the northbound carriageway about an hour later. Drivers travelling southbound on the M1 are experiencing delays of about 30 minutes. National Highways has said the road is expected to remain closed for “several hours” while police are at the scene.
