Traffic maps show long queues

Things are, as anticipated, getting worse, with Google’s traffic monitoring maps showing long delays southbound, currently stretching all the way back from the Coalville junction towards Shepshed. Traffic also appears to be queueing northbound, with reports of a separate crash in the queue. The road, like many stretches of motorway, is heavily used by HGVs, with lots of distribution centres based close to J22.

It isn’t known what has happened, although there are unconfirmed reports of a collision with police having previously issued a warning for ice in the area.

A stretch of the A1 in north Nottinghamshire is currently closed and there are long delays on the tram network, with the freezing weather meaning only two trams are currently running.
