M1 was closed due to crash involving car and two lorries near Nottingham

The M1 was closed southbound due to an accident involving two lorries and a car.[1] The incident occurred around 10.30am this morning (Sunday, December 31), between junction 24 for East Midlands Airport and junction 25 for the A52 Brian Clough Way[2] and A453 Ashby Road. The southbound carriageway was initially fully closed, before two lanes reopened at around midday. In an update posted at around 11am, traffic monitoring site Inrix stated: “M1 Southbound closed, stationary traffic due to accident, a car and two lorries involved from J25 A52 Brian Clough Way (Nottingham / Derby) to J24 A453 Ashby Road (Nottingham South / East Midlands Airport).”

At the time, the Motorway Traffic Cameras website also issued a traffic alert on the incident. It said: “There are three of four lanes closed. Normal traffic conditions are expected between 13:00 and 13:15 on 31 December 2023.”

The road reopened in full around 1pm and traffic has since returned to normal in the area.
