M2 crash between Junction 3 for Blue Bell Hill and Junction 5 for Sittingbourne on Thursday sees man arrested after two children taken to hospital

A man has been arrested after two children were taken to hospital following a serious crash on a motorway. Emergency services were called to the coastbound carriageway of the M2, between Junction 4 for Hempstead[1] and Junction 5 for Sittingbourne[2], at around 5.10am on Thursday[3] (December 28).

The collision resulted in the closure of the motorway from Junction 3 for Blue Bell Hill for more than seven hours until it reopened just after midday. It involved a grey Vauxhall Astra and a red Citroen Berlingo.

The two youngsters have since been discharged from hospital, having been in a serious but stable condition on Thursday.

The driver of the Astra has also been discharged having been treated for minor injuries.

He has also since been arrested. A police spokesman said: "A man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving in connection with the collision and has since been bailed until March 26." Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) wants anyone with dashcam footage or information to come forward.
