M4 crash: Pedestrian dies after being struck crossing carriageway

Thames Valley Police said the man, aged in his eighties, was tragically struck while crossing the carriageway around 9.40pm on January 7, 2024. It is believed the elderly pedestrian had been earlier driving a grey Hyundai Iconic. The incident happened on the eastbound carriageway between junction 15 and 15, prompting the motorway to be closed for several hours in both direction.

The M4 has since reopened, in the past couple hours, in both directions. Investigating officer Sergeant Lyndsey Blackaby, of the Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit, said: “We are investigating this collision in which a man has tragically died. “Our condolences and thoughts are with their loved ones.

The man’s next of kin has been informed and they are being supported by specially trained officers.

“We are appealing for anyone with dash-cam footage or witness information to please come forward, calling 101 or reporting online, quoting reference 432400009724.

“We would like to thank the public for their patience while we conducted our enquiries.”
