M6 hit by rush hour delays after two-car crash blocks lanes

The M6 southbound was hit by major traffic delays[1] during rush hour this morning after a two-car crash on the major motorway. The crash happened between J5 and J4A. Two lanes were blocked[2] following the collision but have both since reopened.

National Highways had reported delays of around 50 minutes, with congestion backing up to J6. Recovery vehicles were sent to the scene[3] of the crash which was cleared at around 8.20am. Traffic delays were reduced to around 30 minutes.

“Two cars involved on M6 southbound from J5 A452 (Castle Bromwich) to J4A M42[6] J8. Congestion to J7 (Great Barr).” National Highways West Midlands wrote on social media platform X at 8.19am: “The scene is now clear and all lanes are running on the M6 southbound between J5 (Birmingham)[7] and J4A (M42) following an earlier collision.

There are residual delays of 30 minutes in the area.”
