M6 shut for NINE HOURS after lorry crash spills vegetables across all four lanes

A section of the M6 has finally reopened this afternoon - after being closed for more than nine hours. The southbound carriageway - between junction 17 for Sandbach and junction 16 for Stoke-on-Trent North - was shut from 6am today. The carriageway was closed after a lorry hit a bridge and shed its load of vegetables.

Now traffic is continuing to queue following the reopening of the southbound M6. Traffic monitoring site Inrix states: "There is queuing traffic due to an earlier accident. A bridge was struck by a vehicle which shed its load of vegetables.
