M6 shut for NINE HOURS after lorry crash spills vegetables across all four lanes
A section of the M6 has finally reopened this afternoon - after being closed for more than nine hours. The southbound carriageway - between junction 17 for Sandbach and junction 16 for Stoke-on-Trent North - was shut from 6am today. The carriageway was closed after a lorry hit a bridge and shed its load of vegetables.
Now traffic is continuing to queue following the reopening of the southbound M6. Traffic monitoring site Inrix states: "There is queuing traffic due to an earlier accident. A bridge was struck by a vehicle which shed its load of vegetables.
All lanes have now been reopened." North West Police Motorway Group was called to the crash scene. The condition of the lorry driver has not been disclosed.
A National Highways spokesman said: "The M6 in Cheshire was closed due to a collision involving a lorry which had struck an overbridge."
Any witnesses should call Cheshire Police on 101.
