M6 to reopen after lorry crash caused hours delay
The vehicle collided with a bridge between Crewe and Sandbach. The lorry spilled its load and the road engineers had to assess the damage[1] to the bridge. Diversions were put in place and queues of up to three miles were reported.
A spokesman for North West Motorway Police said earlier today: “The closure on the M6 Between J17 – J16 is likely to be in place for the rest of the morning to allow for recovery, clean up and structural engineers to assess the damage to the bridge.” “There is a queue of more than four miles going towards where the crash[2] took place.”
However the North West Motorway Police has confirmed the road is about to reopen. #M6 J17-J16 is now ready to be re-opened.
The entry slip at J17 is open and the main c/way closure is in the process of being lifted now.
