Shocking dashcam footage shows a motorist driving through a puddle and callously soaking a binman trying to clear up after the festive period, leaving locals outraged and demanding police action.

Retired cop Julie Lancaster was astonished when she witnessed the incident in Chandler’s Ford, Hampshire, as Storm Henk drenched Britain earlier this week.

The 64-year-old former sergeant was driving home from the dry cleaners when she spotted the binman on the other side of the road collecting loose cardboard next to the puddle.

But as she approached, a black car travelling in the other direction failed to slow down and sprayed water all over him.

The man desperately tried to used the disused cardboard he was collecting to protect him from the oncoming drenching, but it was little help, as he was left soaked and angry whilst the vehicle carried on down the road.

To his credit, the binman returned to worked instantly, taking the cardboard over the road to be deposited into the garbage truck, that was situated in front of Julie’s car.

The incident was recorded on Julie’s dashcam and she posted the footage to her neighbourhood Facebook page.

Locals were outraged and encouraged the former Hampshire police officer to report the ‘inconsiderate’ motorist.

According to the RAC, motorists who splash pedestrians can be fined up to GBP5,000.

‘This poor man must have been absolutely drenched,’ she said. ‘It was so inconsiderate.’

Julie – who offered sympathy to the binman as she drove past – said that the recording is too low quality to pick out the offending car’s registration number or the make and model of the vehicle.
