Man, 20, arrested after allegedly fleeing the scene of two-vehicle crash in Gateshead
A man has been arrested after allegedly fleeing the scene of a Gateshead crash. Officers were called to reports of a two-vehicle collision on Chowdene Bank[1], in Gateshead[2], at around 12.25pm on Tuesday. The road was shut between Salcombe Gardens and the mini-roundabout by Sainsbury’s petrol station before being reopened a short while later.
Police started a search for the occupants of one of the vehicles who fled from the scene. Northumbria Police have confirmed a 20-year-old man has now been arrested. A Northumbria Police[3] spokesperson said: “Shortly after 12.25pm on Tuesday, we received a report of a two-vehicle collision on Chowdene Bank in Gateshead.
“Emergency services attended and, thankfully, nobody appears to have suffered serious injuries in the collision. “The road between Salcombe Gardens and the mini-roundabout by Sainsbury’s petrol station was closed to allow for the recovery of the vehicles but has since reopened to traffic.”
