Man arrested in connection with alleged hit-and-run crash in Northumberland that left pensioner fighting for life

A man has been arrested in connection with an alleged hit and run crash which left a pensioner fighting for life. A 78-year-old pedestrian was seriously injured on Links Road in Seaton Sluice[1], just after The Astley Arms pub, on December 8. It was reported that an elderly woman had been crossing the road when she was allegedly struck by a vehicle[2] - which was said to be travelling southbound.

Emergency services attended the scene at around 5pm, but the vehicle that was alleged to be involved had already left the area. The pensioner was taken to hospital with serious injuries and was in a critical condition for a period of time. On Wednesday, Northumbria Police[3] confirmed a man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

The pedestrian who sustained injuries is said to be "recovering well" A spokesperson for the force said: "We arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He was subsequently released under investigation.

The lady is recovering well, however, sustained serious injuries."
