Man charged with dangerous driving over serious Winwick Lane crash

At around 9.20pm on Friday, May 26, Cheshire Police was called to Winwick Lane, near to junction 22 of the M6 near Croft. This came following reports of a collision involving a grey Mercedes C350 and a black Yamaha motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle, a 41-year-old man from Warrington, was taken to hospital with serious injuries, with Cheshire Police at the time stating that these injuries were ‘life changing’.

The road was closed for a number of hours while emergency services attended the scene. The driver of the Mercedes, a 44-year-old man from Ellesmere Port, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. The force launched a public appeal for information over the incident, with officers appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.

Sergeant Andrew Dennison said at the time: “This is a busy stretch of road, and I know that even at this time of night, motorists would have been using it. “We have a number of enquiries underway, and as part of those we are urging anyone who has any dashcam or CCTV footage that could assist us from the area around the time of the collision, and has not yet done so, to please get in touch. “The same goes to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the vehicles around the time of the incident.

“Any information, no matter how big or small, is greatly appreciated.” Craig Pryor, of Robinson Road in Ellesmere Port has since been charged win connection with the incident. The 45-year-old faces a charge of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and two charges of drug driving.

The particulars of the former charge allege that on May 26, on Winwick Lane in Warrington, Pryor caused serious injury by driving a mechanically propelled vehicle, namely a Mercedes car, dangerously.

The particulars of the other two charges both allege that Pryor drove a Mercedes on Winwick Lane on May 26 when proportions of the controlled drugs delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol and benzolecgonine were in his blood, exceeding the specified limit.

He is due to make a first appearance in relation to the incident before Warrington Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Tuesday.
