Man dies after truck falls through ice on lake

ISLE, Minn. (KBJR[1]/Gray News) – A man died after his truck went through the ice on a lake in Minnesota, according to officials.

Richard Gadbois, 80, was driving his truck on the ice on Mille Lacs Lake Friday morning, when the ice broke underneath his truck, according to the Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office.

Responders found Gadbois in the water wearing a flotation device. He was pulled to shore and transported to Mille Lacs Health System Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to Mille Lacs County Sheriff Kyle Burton, the ice was about six inches thick where the truck went through. The recommended thickness for clear ice is between 13 and 17 inches for a truck.

“This is another reminder to the public that ice conditions are not safe for driving cars and trucks on right now,” Burton said.
