Man’s legs trapped between two shipping containers at Peel Ports

Rescue crews are at the Port of Liverpool after a man's legs became stuck between two shipping containers. At around midday today (Saturday January 13), the man was found trapped by the legs between two containers at Peel Ports. The casualty, who was discovered by rescue teams conscious and breathing, was released using hydraulic equipment and airbags and is now receiving emergency medical treatment.

It has not yet been confirmed how he came to be in the position in which he was discovered. Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service and North West Ambulance Service all attended the scene in Seaforth following the major incident[1] and eyewitnesses reported the incident to be involving a ship's crew member but this has yet to be confirmed.

A spokesperson from Merseyside Fire & Rescue said: "Fire crews are in attendance at an incident at Seaforth Container Base, Port of Liverpool this afternoon.

Two fire engines and the Search and Rescue Team are in attendance. "Crews were alerted at 12.00pm and on scene at 12.06pm. Crews arrived to find a person trapped by the legs between two containers, with the casualty conscious and breathing.

After a meeting between Fire Service, North West Ambulance, Port Police and Port Staff, a plan was agreed to remove the casualty using hydraulic equipment and airbags. The casualty was successfully released and is now in the care of North West Ambulance Service and receiving medical treatment."
