Millwall vs Middlesbrough kick-off delayed after travel chaos in London

Kick-off for Middlesbrough’s Championship clash with Millwall had to be delayed by 15 minutes due to travel chaos in London. The game will now kick-off at 3.15 pm. A combination of a closure to the Blackwall Tunnel (Southbound) as well as City Centre protests caused far higher traffic than normal around the capital, meaning Boro[1] were late arriving at Millwall’s Den ahead of the game.

Boro would usually arrive at away grounds between 1.30 and 1.45 pm ahead of a 3 pm kick-off but it was just before 2.30 pm that Michael Carrick and his players arrived. Millwall players were said to have been held up also. Boro travelled to London by train on Friday and are understood to have stayed in the Canary Warf area of London last night, which is where they travelled from to get to the ground ahead of the Championship game.

This reporter experienced similar traffic on his way to the game, with my route also taking me past Canary Warf. FOLLOW: Live updates from Millwall vs Boro[2] Staying 15 miles away in Dagenham East, it took this reporter over two hours to complete that journey, while battling with London traffic.

The closure of the Blackwall Tunnel for maintenance work has left the Rotherhithe Tunnel as the only southbound tunnel open on the east side of London. The alternative was heading closer to central London and crossing on Tower Bridge. Boro were able to name their team before arriving at the Den.

Carrick made four changes to his team from the side that beat Chelsea in midweek. Luke Ayling and Finn Azaz came straight in for their Boro debuts, while Sam Greenwood and Morgan Rogers came straight back into the side. As well as Emmanuel Latte Lath and Alex Bangura, Boro were also without Josh Coburn who didn’t travel.
