Moment bruised dad is arrested for crashing car and leaving cheerleader daughter, 16, to die

This is the moment a dad with bruised eyes is arrested for crashing his car[1] and fleeing the scene, leaving his young daughter to die. Police[2] bodycam footage shows officers stopping Elliott Binney and trying to speak to him about the death of 16-year-old Shelby Binney following a rollover crash near 88th Street and 171st Street in Bixby, near Tulsa, Oklahoma, on January 11. The man’s daughter, who was a cheerleader, was found lying on the road after being thrown from the vehicle and was later pronounced dead in hospital, Bixby Police Department said.

Investigators said the teenager was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. It was also revealed that cops found an open bottle of vodka at the crash site – and Binney admitted to drinking a sip of it. Disturbing police footage shows an officer from the Checotah Police Department shouting to Binney: “Hand out the window, now!” Binney is seen sitting in his car and putting his window down, and an officer can then be heard saying: “Open the door!

Step out slowly!” When Binney gets out of the vehicle, police officers surround him with their guns raised. One of the cops then tells him: “Put your hands both up in the air, and with your right hand grab the collar of your shirt, and pull your shirt up.”

The 41-year-old suspect is then told to get on his knees and cross his ankles before cops arrest him. He was held around 50 miles from the scene in Checotah on Friday morning. Witnesses claimed they saw Binney driving about 70 miles per hour and passing multiple cars in a no-passing zone moments before the accident.

A witness also recalled seeing a man standing outside the family’s SUV after the crash but said that after asking him to sit down and inquiring who was still in the car, the man reportedly ran away. Police now believe Binney initially fled on foot before getting into a second vehicle. Bixby Police Chief Todd Blish told FOX23: “He walked to a family-owned business and retrieved a vehicle.

We were able to track this vehicle electronically and ultimately made an arrest in the case.”

Three other people involved in the crash, the girl’s mum and two siblings, were hospitalised. Bixby Police Chief Todd Blish told 2 News: “These situations are tragic in every sense of the word.”

Bixby Public Schools released a letter to families and staff announcing Shelby’s death. It said: “Our school family has learned of some very tragic news. Last evening, a Bixby High School student, sophomore Shelby Binney, was killed in a car accident in Bixby.

Shelby’s teammates at Allstar and Cheer issued an emotional statement to remember her. It read: “Thursday night OXC lost our sweet Shelby Binney to a car accident.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Binney family during this tragic time. “Shelby has been a part of the OXT and OXC family for many years. She was loved by everyone around her.

She was a bright light in the gym, a hard-working athlete, and the best teammate you could ask for. “She had a heart of gold and showed kindness to all. Shelby always had a smile on her face.

She loved her teammates, coaches, and the gym.

We miss her terribly.

Please pray for her family and all those whose lives she touched.”
