Motorcyclist suffers leg and arm injuries after serious crash with 4×4 closes city centre road

A motorcyclist was left with leg and arm injuries after a collision with a 4×4 in the city centre on Thursday morning (January 11). The major crash forced police to cordon off Princess Street amid the busy morning traffic, with officers and paramedics called to the scene shortly before 8am. Pictures from the scene show a badly damaged motorbike within the cordon and debris strewn across the road.

Greater Manchester Police[2] have confirmed that the motorcyclist was a man, and was taken to hospital after sustaining leg and arm injuries.

Further details about his condition have not yet been confirmed.

The driver remained at the scene and no arrests have been made. Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are currently carrying out enquiries. Throughout the morning, police asked drivers to ‘avoid the area’ amid investigations, which saw the busy road closed off between Granby Row and Whitworth Street.

Buses were also diverted amid the emergency services response.
