Mum’s Christmas heartbreak as son missing for nearly a month
The heartbroken mother of a man who has been missing for just short of a month has made a desperate plea for help getting him home. Daniel Mizzi, 35, who is from Plymouth, was last seen on December 8 on a coastal path[1] in the St Ives[2] area of Cornwall. Devon and Cornwall Police[3] put out an appeal last month to try to find Daniel, but it has so far not resulted in him being found.
Officers searching for Daniel say he was seen at St Erth train station at 12.08pm on Friday, December 8. He was seen a short time later walking towards the coastal path at the Carbis Bay[4] Hotel. Daniel’s mother Karran Minchinton says she has no idea why her son would be in that area of Cornwall[5] and has spoken of the heartbreak of not having him around at Christmas[6].
She said: “I want to keep Daniel in the public eye and will be coming down to that area of Cornwall to put posters up. It’s a very out of the ordinary thing for my son to do. That’s why he’s classed as vulnerable.
He just doesn’t do this sort of thing. He pays his rent on time, pays his bills on time and works from home as a freelance writer. This just isn’t a sort of thing he does.
“He lives with my other son in Plymouth[9]. He went out that morning and bought a return ticket the night before. He text at 6pm-ish, his phone was last on at 6:40pm-ish and it hasn’t been on since.
“There’s been no money going out of his account. He had taken cash out but that’s it.”

Karran says that police have done several searches for Daniel, including from the air. She added: “We thought at first maybe he’d gone walking to clear his mind.
The night before he disappeared everything seemed normal. It’s so unusual for him. He has no friends down there (in the St Ives area), no relationships, no family.

I raised him for most of his life on my own and when things have gone wrong in the past he’s always come to me. “I’ve been feeling dreadful. Christmas[11] is a big thing for us. They’re grown up but are still my boys and we have our stupid traditions but couldn’t do them this year.
“Daniel if you’re listening to this I need you to know that whatever has happened, I don’t care what it is, I just want you to come home or contact us. You’re my son and I’m worried stiff.” Daniel is white, around 5ft 6in and very thin.
He has short light brown curly hair and stubble.
He was wearing a blue jacket, blue jeans, brown shoes and had a cross body bag on.
Anyone who sees Daniel is asked to contact police on 999 quoting 50230321378.
