Murderer Alice Wood was quiet ‘swot’ who had grades tattooed on arm says pal
Convicted murderer Alice Wood was a school ‘swot’ who had her top results tattooed on her arm, says a former pal. Wood, 23, was convicted of killing fiance Ryan Watson 24, by repeatedly running him over with her car. Wood used her car “as a weapon” to mow down charity support worker Ryan and drag him more than 500ft after accusing him of flirting with another woman at a party in the West Midlands.
Wood was found unanimously guilty[1] at Chester Crown Court on January 2 following a three-week trial. Speaking to The Mirror[2] following the verdict, a pal of the ex-Philosophy student said she was “quiet”, and claims she even had her exam results tattooed on her. The former friend said: “Speaking to everyone who knew her the general consensus is this is unexpected. She was really smart, like effortlessly so. In the first year of secondary she was selected for the gifted and talented group, got three A-stars at A-level and was one of only a few pupils in the school’s history to get to the final selection stage for Oxford.”

A jury heard how the pair had been drinking alcohol at a party in Hanley, Staffordshire[5], before returning to their address at around 11pm in May of last year.
An argument broke out and Wood got into her own vehicle before deliberately driving at her fiance. He was dragged 160m during the third crash and was pronounced dead at the scene in Rode Heath, Cheshire, a short time later on May 6, 2022. During the trial, the court heard Ryan died of crush asphyxiation injuries and Wood was almost twice the drink-drive limit.
His family welcomed the verdict, saying: “The person Ryan trusted the most is the person who took his life in such a violent way.” Mum Lisa added: “I am living in a nightmare knowing my son’s last moments were so brutal.”

Detective Inspector Nigel Parr of Cheshire Police said: “While no conviction is going to bring Ryan back, I hope it will bring some sense of closure for his family, knowing that justice has been served. The night Ryan died, Wood used her vehicle as a weapon, while under the influence of alcohol, deliberately driving at him and even continuing to drive after knocking him down. “She knew what she had done, but since then has refused to take accountability for her actions.
Thankfully, as a result of our investigation and the evidence against her, she has been found guilty of Ryan’s murder.
“Our thoughts remain with Ryan’s family and friends as they continue to deal with the devastating events that took place.”
