New A53 speed camera vandalised as lens covered in graffiti
A new speed camera targeting motorists on the busy A53 has been left with ‘graffiti’ on its lens. The incident in Baddeley Green is the latest of the digital devices to be targeted. As reported by StokeonTrentLive[1], stickers have been put on the lenses of two cameras on the A34 in Trent Vale.[2] Now motorists have spotted that one of the speed cameras on Leek New Road appears to have white spray paint on its lens.
Staffordshire Police have been contacted about the camera in Baddeley Green. As previously reported by StokeonTrentLive[3], a GBP640,000 investment was made to replace a number of fixed cameras with a digital system along with overhauling technology in mobile vans. There are 254 fixed camera sites in Staffordshire – with 20 being upgraded in the first phase. In the Potteries and devices in Trent Vale[4], Sneyd Green[5], Milton[6], Baddeley Green and all those on the city centre ring-road have been revamped.
