A photo of a police car hidden from plain sight to catch out speeding drivers and motorcycle riders has sparked outrage from road users because it was occupying an emergency safety ramp.
The photo shared to a motorcycling enthusiasts group was taken on Putty Road, a scenic 168km stretch that links the NSW[2] Hunter Valley with the Hawkesbury region on Sydney[3]‘s north-west outskirts.
The police car was hidden from approaching traffic and positioned across an emergency escape ramp, blocking access for vehicles that might have needed to use it in the event of an accident.
The ramp enables vehicles which are having problems to stop safely.
Oncoming motorists would have been unaware police (pictured) were waiting to clock their speed
Many Aussies were not impressed with the cop’s actions.
‘I have emailed this to Hawkesbury Area Command and also to the current mayor of the Hawkesbury…. With hopes that they wake the f up,’ a motorcyclist who shared the photo wrote.
Other road users were just as outraged.
‘For our safety’ right? That’s insane, one man wrote.
Another added: ‘Proof that you don’t have to be clever to be a cop.’
A third wrote: ‘Rules dictate he is putting everyone in danger including ‘ itself’ .
The finger of blame and incrimination ends up pointing back to one self.
His overseer would love to see this picture.’
On the-spot fines in NSW range from £137 and one demerit point for being 10km/hr over the speed limit to a hefty £2,794 and six demerits in excess of 45km/hr.

Tuesday marked the conclusion of NSW Police’s high-visibility road safety policing operation over the Christmas/New Year’s period.
Police issued 8069 speed infringements, laid 631 drink-driving charges and 1374 drug-driving charges, attended 740 major crashes, and conducted 342,102 breath tests.
Five people died on the state’s roads over the festive period, including two Sydney dads in a horror five car pile-up on the Great Western Highway [4]near Lithgow.
