People evacuated and 2,000 homes without gas after crash

A car crash caused 2,000 homes to be without gas. Emergency services were called to Queensbury Way in Widnes[1] on Sunday, December 31 at around 6.50pm. When police and the fire service arrived at the scene, they found a car had crashed into a gas substation causing a leak.

People living in the immediate area were evacuated from their homes. A spokesperson for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said the gas leak caused 2,000 homes in Dutton and Upton[2] Rock to be without gas.

In an update at around 9.30pm on Sunday, the fire service said Cadent engineers were on scene trying to fix the issue.

A spokesperson urged anyone in the area seriously affected by the lack of gas to call the Cadent emergency number on 0800 111 999. A spokesperson for Cheshire Fire and Rescue said: “Two fire engines have been at the scene of a road traffic collision. A car collided with a gas substation causing a leak.

Several households in the immediate area have been evacuated and it is estimated that a significant number of homes will be without gas while engineers work to stop the leak. “The homes affected are in the Dutton and Upton Rocks area of Widnes.” For the latest news and breaking news visit liverpoolecho.co.uk/news[5].
