AUBURN, Wash. (KOMO) -- Washington State Patrol troopers and Auburn police are working together after a small plane crashed[1] in south King County Tuesday. Trooper Rick Johnson posted on X at 11:57 a.m. that the "minor injury small plane crash" occurred on Auburn Way North near 40th Street NE. The Auburn Police Department (APD) said officers responded to the crash around 11:30 a.m. and found a single-engine plane that had crashed into a fence.

The department said, based on preliminary information, the pilot lost power after takeoff and was attempting to return to the airport at the time of the crash. The crash occurred a little more than a mile from the Auburn Municipal Airport. The APD said Auburn Way North is expected to be closed in both directions from 37th Street NE to 42nd Street NE "for the next couple of hours" pending a National Transportation Safety Board investigation.

Police said the pilot "sustained minor injuries," and fire crews said they were taken to the hospital "for further evaluation."

No other information is available at this time.
