Pitsea A13 crash: man arrested after paramedics ‘assaulted’
The A13, Southend[1] bound, near Pitsea, was closed for more than an hour after a vehicle left the road on Thursday night. All emergency services were called to the scene at around 8.10pm. Essex Police say one car had been involved in a crash with one of the two occupants sustaining minor injuries.
The East of England Ambulance Service also attended the crash, but those in the car “declined transport to hospital”. Officers say while at the scene it was reported paramedics in attended were assaulted whilst they carried out their work. A spokesman for Essex Police added: “We were called to reports of a collision on the A13 near the five bells roundabout at about 8.10pm on Thursday January 4.
“At the scene it appeared one car had been involved in a collision and one person had sustained minor injuries. Paramedics also attended the incident, and it was reported they were assaulted while carrying out their work. “We arrested one man on suspicion of dangerous driving and assaulting an emergency worker.”
The man remains in custody. Essex Fire also attended the crash and helped make the scene safe. A spokesman said: “Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision on the A13, Pitsea at 8:23pm last night.
“On arrival, crews reported a vehicle had collided with a tree. While nobody was trapped inside the vehicle, crews worked to make the scene safe by 8.43pm.” A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service added: “We were called at 8.16pm yesterday with reports of a collision on the eastbound carriageway of the A13 in Vange.
“We sent one ambulance, however two people declined transport to hospital.”
Luke Mackenzie, councillor responsible for Pitsea South East, said: “Emergency workers do an amazing job every day.
“I hope the paramedics are ok, and I like many others, are thankful for all the work they do.”
