Police appeal after ‘multi-vehicle’ A50 crash leaves three in hospital

Police are appealing for witnesses after a ‘multi-vehicle collision’ left three people in hospital. Emergency services were sent to Catchems Corner, near Meir Park, following the crash[1] involving a Mercedes, a Renault Clio, an Audi and a Vauxhall Vivaro van. Paramedics say one driver – a woman – suffered a suspected medical episode[2] at the wheel before the smash, which happened at 1.10pm.

She was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital. Staffordshire Police say two further people – the driver and passenger of the Renault Clio – were also attending hospital but they are not thought to be seriously injured. Meanwhile, the driver of the van was unhurt.

The force is now asking witnesses to come forward. A spokesman said: “We were called at 1.10pm this afternoon to reports of a multi-vehicle collision on the A50 at Catchems Corner, near Meir Park.

“The collision involved a Mercedes, a Renault Clio, an Audi and a Vauxhall Vivaro van. The driver of the Mercedes was taken to hospital by ambulance. The driver and passenger of the Renault Clio were attending hospital.

The driver of the van was not injured. If you have any information, please get in touch.” A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called to reports of an RTC on the A50 in Meir, Stoke-on-Trent at around 1.45pm and sent an ambulance and paramedic officer to the scene.

On arrival, crews discovered three cars had been involved in a collision. “There was one patient requiring assistance, a woman, who was not injured but crews were told had suffered a suspected medical episode at the wheel prior to the collision. She was treated at the scene and conveyed to Royal Stoke University Hospital.”
