Police explain Spring Bank closure at Park Street junction as forensic examination carried out

The location of a serious collision in Hull has again been closed by police as they investigate the death of a pedestrian. A 74-year-old woman was seriously injured after she was hit by a car while crossing the junction of Park Street and Spring Bank[1] on December 14. Sadly, she died in hospital two days later.

Hull Live understands a car struck her while turning left onto Park Street at around 11.35am that morning. Officers from Humberside Police[2] arrived at the scene shortly after and closed the junction. It’s understood the woman was still laid in the road more than an hour after the crash.

Police officers wrapped the injured pedestrian in a foil blanket while they waited for an ambulance to arrive and the road was reopened shortly before 2.30pm. Following reports the road had been closed again today (Thursday), a spokesperson for Humberside Police told Hull Live: “Officers investigating a road traffic collision on Park Street in Hull, near to the junction with Spring Bank, have this morning (Thursday 4 January) closed the road between Spring Bank and Park Street as a part of a reconstruction. “On Thursday 14 December it is believed a Blue Honda FR-V and pedestrian collided at around 11.35am and a 74-year-old woman was taken to hospital to receive medical treatment for serious injuries to her leg and hip.

“Two days later, on Saturday 16 December, the woman died in hospital. Her family are being supported by specially trained officers. “As a part of our enquiries, officers from our Serious Collision Unit on Sunday 17 December closed the road and today (Thursday 4 January) have done same to conduct a forensic examination, and further establish the circumstances surrounding the collision.

“Like all other ambulance services across the country, we have been experiencing significant operational pressures which have been exacerbated by extended hospital handover times.

Whilst our dedicated staff are doing their best to respond as quickly as possible to all emergencies, we acknowledge that some patients are having to wait longer for an ambulance response as we prioritise those in a life-threatening condition.”
