Police highlight work of Neighbourhood Policing Teams
The team has highlighted some of the work that has been done throughout 2023 and has reassured the public it will continue into 2024. In 2023 officers in the team, in addition to their normal patrol activity, spent 1584 hours specifically targeting anti-social behaviour and other issues identified to us as a priority by you our community. A Cumbria Police spokesperson said: “Our local focus hub dealt with 52 referrals which saw us problem-solving long-term issues with our partners from Cumberland Council, Cumbria Fire and Rescue, The Environment Agency, Riverside Housing, and Castles & Coasts to name just a few.
“Officers throughout the year have worked tirelessly to make the road network safer and in doing so have seized a number of vehicles that were driven illegally and/or in an anti-social manner, issued numerous traffic offence reports for motoring offences and arrested dozens of drivers for driving whilst over the prescribed limit for alcohol or drugs. “2023 also saw a closure notice issued by Carlisle Magistrates Court for an address in Brampton to directly deal with the impact ASB has on the local community. “In addition, we have also executed a number of warrants at addresses in Carlisle under the Misuse of Drugs Act to tackle drug supply and the impact it has on the local community, carried out stop searches of individuals resulting in drugs and weapons being taken off the streets and undertaken high visibility patrol in crime hot-spots.
“We have been visible within the community and hold regular community drop-in sessions allowing you the opportunity to speak to your local officer and commit to continue to to do this across 2024.
“We have policed a number of events across the year ensuring that our community can enjoy these safely.
“Our community surveys have yielded hundreds of replies and we continue to urge people to take the opportunity to complete the surveys when they are live.”
