Police hunt biker after Glasgow pensioner injured in hit and run on stolen motorbike

Police have launched a re-appeal as they hunt for a man who knocked over a pensioner and fled the scene on a stolen[1] motorbike. The 69-year-old woman was struck while crossing the road[2] on Hogmanay, at around 8pm, on Mosspark[3] Drive between the junctions with Arbroath Avenue and Tealing Avenue, Cardonald. She sustained a number of injuries and was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

It is understood that she remains in hospital seven days after the incident and is said to be in a serious but stable condition.

The grey Yamaha MT-07 motorbike was travelling north towards Paisley Road West when the incident took place. The rider of the motorbike made off in the direction of Tealing Avenue and officers are keen to trace him.

Around 8pm on Saturday, January 6, officers from Police Scotland’s motorcycle unit and from Greater Glasgow’s divisional violence reduction unit carried out road checks at the scene of the crash. Sergeant Chris Hoggans said: “Our investigation has established that the motorcycle was stolen and we are following a number of enquiries to trace the rider who made off from the scene of the crash. “Our road checks on Saturday identified a number of potential witnesses who had not previously spoken to officers and we are continuing to appeal to anyone else with information to come forward. “I am also appealing to the motorbike rider to do the right thing and come forward.” Anyone with information that could assist officers is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2984 of Sunday, 31 December, 2023.
