Police are investigating the ‘sudden’ death of a ‘beautiful and effervescent’ 14-year-old schoolgirl, whose body was found at a farmhouse.

It is still unknown how Summer Sheppard died in Cotgrave, Nottinghamshire, in November last year.

Yesterday, Nottinghamshire Police, who launched a top-level probe into her death, refused to say if it had ruled out a crime[2] as the cause of her death.

It also refused to say why there was a five week gap before the inquest into her death opened.

A Go Fund Me campaign has been launched by friend Julia Flanagan to raise cash for her mother and family.

She described Summer as ‘beautiful and effervescent’.

‘Jenna and her husband Glen have had a turbulent year and had just started to get life back on track.

‘Glen had recovered from a recent operation after several delays and was gearing up to return to work as normal when tragedy hit the whole family.’

But she said Glen received a life changing diagnosis after the operation.

Ms Flanagan added: ‘Whatever challenges they thought they would have to face nothing could prepare them for what was to come.

‘Summer, beautiful and effervescent, died early on Tuesday morning [November 28, 2023].

A loss no parent or family should ever face.’

An inquest at Salisbury, Wiltshire, was told the cause of her death was unknown.

Summer Rocio Sheppard was found dead at 7.55 am on November 28 at a detached house on a farm at Cotgrave where she was staying with her mother.

Summer was identified by her mother who was not named.

The inquest was adjourned to a date to be fixed.

She had lived with her mother for several weeks after moving from Swindon, Wiltshire.
