Police name two people who died after Newmarket crash involving ambulance

Police have named two people who died after a two-vehicle crash near Newmarket[1]. The collision, which involved an ambulance, occurred at about 7.30pm on Tuesday, December 19, on the B1506 Bury Road between Kentford and Newmarket. The crash[2] involved a marked transport ambulance carrying three people and a blue Volkswagen Golf.

Two people in the ambulance, the female driver and a male passenger, sustained serious injuries and were taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital for treatment. The second passenger, a woman, sustained minor injuries. The driver of the second vehicle, a woman in the Golf, also sustained serious injuries.

In a new statement released on Tuesday, January 16, Suffolk[4] Constabulary said: "Subject to confirmation at formal inquest proceedings, the driver of the Golf who died has been identified as 70-year-old Jane Blampied of Bury St Edmunds, while the male passenger in the ambulance who died, subject to confirmation at formal inquest proceedings, has been identified as 93-year-old Anthony Dawbarn of Newmarket. "The driver of the ambulance is now out of hospital. Officers would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who may have any relevant dashcam footage.

"Anyone with any information is asked to get in touch via the following channels quoting reference SC-19122023-302."
