Police ‘reassured’ as ‘completely reckless’ woman who set fire to Immingham property is locked up

Police have branded a woman "completely reckless" after she set fire to her rented property in Immingham[1], causing GBP20,000 worth of damage in the process. Sarah Carlile, 43, of Bluestone Lane, Immingham, last month admitted committing arson whilst being reckless as to whether the life of another would be endangered. On Wednesday, December 20, she was sentenced to three years in prison[2].

The incident happened on Saturday, November 11, when Carlile started fires in two rooms of her rented property after removing the batteries from her smoke alarm, Grimsby Crown Court[3] heard. Now, the officer in the case, DC Andy Taylor of Humberside Police[4], has said he is "reassured" that Carlile is behind bars. He said: "Carlile was completely reckless, not considering the potentially devastating impact that her actions could have had for others in the area.

"I am reassured that she is now behind bars and no longer poses a risk to the wider community.

"Thankfully nobody was hurt in this instance, but I hope that this sentencing serves as a stark warning to anyone else considering committing arson."
