Police shut road near Lingfield after elderly man is struck by car

A road near Lingfield was closed due to a collision. Surrey Police reported the closure in the morning on January 15. The route[1] closed is near East Grinstead, at the border with Surrey.

Blackberry Lane was closed, which meets the junction at Felcourt Road and Blackberry Road. It is just north of East Grinstead, and is between Dormansland and New Chapel. The incident involved a 79-year-old man being hit by a car.[2] Police have asked motorists to avoid the route.

Surrey Police said they will be releasing more information shortly. It is reported that the man was hit by a black Vauxhall Astra on the road. Police are looking for witnesses to come forward.

Surrey Police said: “We are appealing for witnesses following a collision in Felcourt this morning (15 January). Officers were called to Blackberry Lane at around 9:18am following reports of a collision between a pedestrian and a black Vauxhall Astra between the junctions of Felcourt Road and Blackberry Road. A 79-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the car is assisting officers with their enquiries. No arrests have been made yet. Blackberry Lane is expected to remain closed this afternoon.”
