Renfrewshire primary teacher accused of forcing pupil to straddle his leg amid inappropriate conduct claims

A primary teacher is to face an education watchdog[1] over claims of inappropriate conduct with pupils during a Covid[2] lockdown. The man was in charge of primary three and four pupils in a Renfrewshire school when tight restrictions had been imposed across the country. He faces allegations he forced a pupil to straddle his leg and rubbed other children on the back.

He is also alleged to have held and rubbed the hands of pupils and placed his hands on chairs near to pupils’ bottoms. The unnamed teacher is further said to have sat with his legs open and rubbed the top of a pupil’s hand.

When the pupil moved away, it is then claimed the teacher pulled the child closer until they were straddling his leg. He is also said to have looked at the exposed stomach of another pupil and placed his toes under the stomach of a child near their hips.

The teacher will appear before a virtual panel of the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) next week. The disciplinary body will decide if the allegations from January 2021 are proved and will rule if he is fit to teach. The incidents are alleged to have taken place in a school that was being used as a Covid hub.
