Rochdale: Family pay tribute to man who died in M62 crash
Adnan Malek, 19, died when the car in which he was a passenger crashed near junction 21 in Milnrow, Rochdale, at 10:30pm on Thursday, December 21 2023.[1] No other vehicles were involved and two other people in the car have been treated for their injuries. Initial enquiries by police suggested that a grey Vauxhall Astra was driving westbound on the M62 near to junction 21 in Milnrow when the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with the central barriers.
Subsequently, the car then crossed over onto the eastbound carriageway and overturned. The 19-year-old driver was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Adnan’s family, who are from the Aston area in the West Midlands, said in a statement: “It is with a heavy heart and great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved brother, Adnan Malek.
“Ten days after turning 19, he was taken away from this world, the very world which lit up with his charismatic smile and melted with the kindness of his heart. “A loving brother, son, uncle and friend to many, we will hold him in memory forever. “Those that were fortunate enough to know him knew how much he would go out of his way for others.
“Keeping that in mind, we as his family, have decided to fundraise for charity in his name through Ummah Welfare Trust.” GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. They are also keen to speak to anyone who may have any footage, including dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area in the moments leading up to the collision.
