School bus crashes into bridge in Ford
While no injuries were reported, the road remains closed in both directions as the bus is yet to be recovered. The crash happened at Drakes Corner, Ford, just after 8am. The Journal understands it was the 675 school bus which takes children from Amesbury to the Laverstock schools.
David Newton, Salisbury Reds operations manager, said: “A Salisbury Reds bus was involved in a minor collision on Monday morning. The bus slid to the right as the driver negotiated an icy road in Spire View, Ford. There was some damage to the bus and to a wall.
“There were passengers on-board at the time but nobody was injured. Our engineers have now recovered the vehicle, and I’d like to apologise to our passengers for any inconvenience caused.” Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called to Drakes Corner, Ford at 8.09am this morning (8 January) after a bus was in collision with a bridge.
“Two crews from Salisbury attended; all of the passengers and the driver were safely off the bus when we arrived, so firefighters worked with partners to make the scene safe and our stop was at 9.26am. Wiltshire Police said: “At around 7.50am this morning, we responded after a school bus collided with a bridge in Ford near Salisbury. “There were no reported injuries.
“The road is currently closed in both directions to allow for recovery of the bus, which is ongoing.”
