Second arrest made over M1 death near Watford
The man’s body was found[1] close to the hard shoulder between junctions 4 and 5 on Monday, December 4 – 34 hours after what Herts Police believed to be a “minor” crash. The force said the vehicle involved failed to stop at the scene, but officers were still trying to establish what happened[2] between then and when the body was found. Weeks later a 28-year-old man from Leicester was arrested[3] on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision.
However, it has now emerged that a second arrest was made last week – a 24-year-old man from Hemel Hempstead, on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Both suspects have been released on police bail until March as enquiries continue. After a post-mortem examination on December 6, the provisional cause of death for the man, who was from London and in his 40s, was a traumatic head injury.
At the time, Detective Inspector Garry Webb said: “Our thoughts remain with the man’s family at this terrible time.
“Specially trained officers are continuing to support them and are keeping them updated.”
