Serious crash closes SH60 between Motueka and Richmond

Photo: ST JOHN NZ A serious crash between a car and a motorcycle has closed the main highway between Motueka and Richmond in the top of the South Island. State Highway 60 is closed near the intersection with Mapua Drive while emergency services attend the crash, which occurred around 2.30pm.

Hato Hone St John said one person has been transported to Nelson Hospital in a moderate condition. Diversions are in place, motorists are advised to avoid the area and expect delays. Police say the road is likely to be closed for some time.

It is the second crash that has occurred on the same stretch of highway today.

Hato Hone St John said it was notified of another crash in the same location shortly after 10am this morning.

Three patients were assessed at the scene, with one transported to Nelson Hospital in a moderate condition.
